Smooth muscle, a type of specialized muscle cell, functions in which process? food digestion skeletal movement pumping of blood heart contraction

OpenStudy (aakashsudhakar):

The correct answer would most likely be "food digestion". Skeletal movement obviously requires the use of skeletal muscles. Recall that skeletal muscles are voluntary, and humans obviously have voluntary control over their skeletal movements. Pumping of blood and heart contractions fall under cardiac/cardiovascular functions, which would be regulated by cardiac muscle tissue. The only logical option left is food digestion, which we both know is involuntary; neither one of us can directly control how our stomach and intestines digest our food. This makes sense if you recall that smooth muscle is involuntary.
