2. Identify what technique the author uses to begin the story in the following excerpt. Explain why the author would choose to begin the story in this manner. What effect does it have on the reader? Be sure to use examples from the text to support your ideas. Answer in a minimum of three sentences. As the cannons blew, Katniss raced through the field as fast as she could. She had to reach the bag of supplies before anyone else or she would be left with nothing to survive on. She ran around the perimeter of the arena, narrowly missing a fight. At this moment, Katniss began to think about how she had gotten into this situation with “The Capital”.
I'm trying to think what technique your teacher would want you to name exactly, but as you see the paragraph starts off with action, "Katniss raced through the field as fast as she could." It doesn't start off describing the scenery, or her thoughts, its straight to the point of whats happening at that moment.
It captures the readers attention right away, it doesn't give the reader time to dwindle on anything other than Katniss starting to sprint across the field.
