OpenStudy (wwhitlock):

Washington was a young British officer in 1754. He was sent the Ohio River Valley to first ask the French to leave, and then to protect British interests. He built Fort Necessity and attempted to make ready for a larger British armed force. He was attacked by a larger French force at Fort Necessity and surrendered to the French.
