Medal and fan! a^2=36 I know the answer is 6, but what do I do to both sides to get that answer?

OpenStudy (kamibug):

You need to find the square root of both sides. :) That leaves you with just a on the left and then 36 under the sq.rt. sign! |dw:1415221220927:dw|
