kim's softball team is playing in the championship game. they are losing by a score of 17 to 16. there are 4 innings to go. kim wants to know how many runs her team needs per inning to win the game if the other team does not score. write an inequality _______ find the minimum whole number ________.

?

OpenStudy (valpey):

Does the person asking the question know that if the score is tied after 9 innings (or however many they typically play in championship softball games) they continue playing?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what??????

OpenStudy (valpey):

Obviously if Kim's team scores twice and the other team doesn't score they would win 18-17, right? So that would be two runs over the course of four innings.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i need an inequality

OpenStudy (valpey):

Well they can avoid losing if they score greater than or equal to one run over the course of four innings.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

>1/4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is your answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks

OpenStudy (valpey):

This question is really the worst (on so many levels). We could solve this with the expectation that Kim's team can win in extra innings so we only need: Requisite Runs per Inning \(\ge 1/4\) But that is ridiculous. There have been 33 runs scored in the game so far.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this aint right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the inequality is 6+4r>17 and the minimum # is 3 yall
