Well, that is a partial answer. There is a narrow zone of temperatures that humans (and most organisms in general) can withstand. It is called the goldilocks zone (really, I am not making this up). We can adapt to temperatures to a certain point. If they are too high or too low, we (and other organisms) will die. Our existence basically is tied to the fact that water is a liquid.
