Well, I'm not exactly brilliant in history - but it's somewhat obvious - African Americans were defending the country, families were losing their loved ones in the war, yet they were denied the right to vote? It was clearly unfair that African American soldiers were giving up their lives to defend the nation, yet didn't gain their voting rights...
