How many square feet of carpeting are needed to carpet a 12-foot × 12-foot room

well, to find the area of something, you have to take two sides of the shape, and multiply them by each other. if it was a rectangle, you would take one long side, one short side. if its a square, (like it is here) you can take any two sides. if its a right triangle, multiply the vertical side and the horizontal side, then divide by two. ill give you an example. a triangle is 6 feet tall and 4 feet long. (then there is a diagonal line connecting each points, so its a right triangle) anyway, you multiply the 6 and 4 and you get 24. now, if it was a rectangle, you would be done. but its half of a rectangle, so we would divide by 2. so your answer is 12. and 12 is the area of the triangle. now for your question, can you infer what the area is with what i have given you?

by the way, if the area is, say, 25, your answer would be 25 square feet.

but 25 is not the answer... :) dont get confused
