I don't understand Quadratics. Can someone hep me.. Fan and Medal.
I'll help! What exactly do you need help with? Solving them or just what they are? A quadratic function is a function with a power of 2, or in the form: \[ax ^{2}+bx+c\]
Solving them. This is the question, and i have a few other. I just don't understand how to do it. I can give you the answer choices, but here's the question. Derive the equation of the parabola with a focus at (6, 2) and a directrix of y = 1.
and then can you check my answers of the few questions i solved that i think are right? i just don't really understand the answer to that one. I solved a few, but i'm not sure if they're right or wrong.
Sure thing! The equation of a parabola whose focus is in the form (h, k + p) and whose directrix is in the form y = k-p is the following: \[(x-h)^{2} = 4p (y-k)\] h= 6 k + p = 2 y = k - p = 1 Now from this information, we can solve for k and p. k = 2-p k = 1+p 2-p = 1+p 2p = 1 --p = 1/2-- p= k-1 p= 2-k 2-k = k-1 2k = 3 k = 3/2 Then, we plug in our values for h, k, and p. \[(x-6)^{2} = 2(y-\frac{ 3 }{ 2 })\] ^^Is your answer^^ I might have done something wrong since I havent done this in years, but I believe this is correct. Cheers!
thanks!
Awesome! Let me know if you need any more help with understanding this!
