What event brought the end of the Mesozoic Era?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The Chicxulub impact in the yucatan 65.5 million years ago is now almost universally accepted by scientists as the paramount factor which ended of the mesozoic. Bakker's theory is interesting but the evidence hardly favors it. For one thing, there was no massive influx of foreign dinosaurs to western North America toward the end. Also, faunal exchanges had occurred many times before without major ecological disruption. American dinosaurs, for example entered Europe late in the Jurassic. Alamosaurus seems to have entered North America in early/mid Maastrichtian time but dinosaur communities still existed over a million years later.
