First thing you will need is the instrument you would like to learn. Drums I really dont have an improvise for this if you dont have a drum kit but you can get normal drum sticks that at in any music store cost $8 (remember to ask for the $8 drum sticks, due to different type of drums sticks), for the piano its really hard to learn with out a piano if you dont have one and cant afford one i recommend going to your local Family Dollar store or any dollar store that sells toys they might sell a little piano keyboard that costs from $5 to $20.

If you can afford please try going to a local music store but personally try going to Sam Ash which since its approaching Christmas they drop their prices on every thing. Last year there where these studio head phones that cost $106 and it was brand new and the sale was for $11.
