Why did the colonists feel they had to right to go to war over the following statement? "No Taxation Without Representation?" Please give examples that led to war.
The British Tea Company got many tax breaks, allowing them to sell their products at a much lower rate than their American competitors, effectively setting up a monopoly for the British. They accomplished this by passing taxes on Americans(without Americans there to argue for themselves) while also passing laws exempting their companies from paying said taxes. It crippled the American economy, as no one could buy American products, therefore making the average person poor, while all the money they did manage to get went to England thanks to their low prices. This fostered American hate towards Britain, leading them to request representatives of America being present during tax meetings, then the Boston Tea Party after that failed, then finally war after being combined with other factors.
Thank you so much! greatly appreciated.
No problem :)
