What was George Washington’s role in the French Indian War?

Actually Washington started the war. While scouting the Ohio territory he captured a French diplomat and his escort. One of the Indian Chiefs Washington had with his party had a personal quarrel with the Frenchman, stepped behind him, and split his skull open with a tomahawk. Later a French rescue party overran Washington's position and talked him into signing a statement written in French getting Washington to admit the murder of the French diplomat was his fault. Washington did not speak nor read French, and when he found out what he had signed he repudiated it. But the incident set off the French and Indian War in the New World which spread to the Old World and was known as the Seven Years War. Actually both France and Britain were spoiling for a fight to resolve issues left over from their last war, and this was as good of an excuse as any to have a go at each other again....
