What is the difference between isotropic and anisotropic?

Isotropic is the same in all directions/anisotropic is not isotropic anisotropic materials have a higher elastic modulus, electrical or thermal conductivity, or index of refraction in some directions than in others. Isotropic materials have the same properties in all directions.
