OpenStudy (anonymous):

is genetic material found in plant cells, animal cells, or prokaryotic cells?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hello, \(\color{green}{\text{Genetic material}}\) means DNA or RNA.(Commonly called the genome for Homo sapiens sapiens.) \(\qquad{}\)DNA is found in the nucleus, as well as RNA. (RNA can be found elsewhere in the cell though.) All cells that have a nucleus are called eukaryotic cells. Prokaryotic cells are cells that lack a nucleus. Peace.

OpenStudy (sreekar369):

sory algorithmic u r wrong which have membrane bound nucleus is called eukaryotic cell which do nt have membrane bound nucleus is called prokaryotic cell both cells have nucleus . . all the plant cells, animal cells ,prokaryotic ,eukaryotic cells shuld have genitic material(DNA and RNA)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hello @sreekar369 , \(\qquad{}\)I believe you are mistaken, for instance red blood cells lack DNA, and cannot synthesis RNA. So they are considered to lack genetic material, \(\color{red}{\text{not all cells contain genetic material}}\). \(\qquad{}\)Prokaryotic cells lack a \(\color{red}{\textit{true nucleus}}\). Eukaryon literally means true (eu) nucleus (karyon). Prokaryon means early (pro) nucleus (karyon), hence Prokaryotes have primitive nucleus which in general when we refer to the word nucleus we are talking about form/organized nucleus, which prokaryotic cells lack. Peace.

OpenStudy (sreekar369):

mature RBC only lack nucleus this is due to requirement of more space for carrying haemoglobin and after that they will die we cannot say prokaryotic cell do not have nucleus ,it is just does not surrounded by a membrane and it has naked DNA

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@sreekar369 okay, How about we say: Prokaryotic cells lack a \(\color{red}{true}\) nucleus. Is that an okay term? Also are you confirming all cells have genetic material, even red blood cells?

OpenStudy (sreekar369):

only mature RBC lack nucleus ,they are firstly mentioned to carry haemoglobin and they will die we can say prokaryotic cell lack true nuclues

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, thank you for the new information. Peace.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Eukaryotes have a nucleoid

OpenStudy (anonymous):

these guys are making things complicated, all cells contain DNA.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nobody really answered my question but thanks for giving me that other information.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How is it not answering it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

genetic material is DNA

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I needed to know if genetic material was a plant cell, animal cell, or prokaryotic cell.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that's how its not answering my question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes! They are in all of those! All cells need it to have intrusions to make proteins that they make and to perform mitosis! Plant and animal cells have a membrane bound nucleus and prokaryotic cells have a nucleiod but its the SAME thing, nucleiod is just not membrane bound. they all carry it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay well thank you Polkapen.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you didnt know the nucleus and nucleiod is what carries DNA

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you for answering my question and not fighting like the others did. lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Im glad i could help :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I do no believe we were making it complex on purpose, the topic it self is naturally complex. The OP could have always asked for a simpler explanation if wanted. Peace.
