Why is photosynthesis an example of a chemical reaction and why is it classified as endothermic?

OpenStudy (abb0t):

If I remember correctly, you're taking carbon dioxide and water and making a complex glucose molecule, yes? And, do you understand what is meant when they say, a reaction is "\(endothermic\)" ? Do you understand the difference between \(endothermic\) and \(exothermic\) ??

OpenStudy (adamaero):

Plant is absorbing energy--right? Soaking up the sun

OpenStudy (abb0t):

Well, yes. Plant is using energy (sunlight) to make glucose. Yes? It can be seen by the equation: \(\sf \color{red}{6~CO_2 + 6~H_2O \rightarrow C_6H_{12}O_6 + 6~O_2}\)
