You have a 10 x 10 x 10 inch cube that is made up of little 1 x 1 x 1 inch cubes. You paint the outside of the big cube red. How many of the little cubes have paint on at least one of their sides?

OpenStudy (studygurl14):

First, find out how many 1 by 1 inch squares can fit into a 10 by 10 surface. Then multiply by the number of sides in a cube. And THEN, (this is the tricky part), you need to subtract the cubes some of cubes from the edge so there aren't any duplicates. Does that make sense?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nope

OpenStudy (studygurl14):

lol, ok. @Mertsj can you help?

OpenStudy (mertsj):

How many of the little cubes are there?

OpenStudy (mertsj):
