If an Oxygen ion has a negative 2 charge, how is it written? is it O-² or O²- ?

different people have different preferences. if you're using a software program, it may have its own preference for how it recognizes inputs. in writing it, you can usually get away with writing either, but I prefer \(O^{-2}\)
