No one is answering on History please help! why did islam split into two branches?

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Because they had an argument over who should be the successor after Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) died.

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

The Shia believe that Ali should have been the first Caliphate while the Sunni believe that Abu Bakr was the rightful first Caliphate.

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Is that enough?
