OpenStudy (xaze):

Help me, please? :( I'll give a medal ! Find the equation of a parabola with a directrix of y=7 and a focus of (-5,-5)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no one likes these conic section questions, but they are not that hard do you know what this looks like? you need to know that first, then we can do it easily

OpenStudy (xaze):

@satellite73 No, I don't know what it looks like :c Thanks so much for responding to my question!! XD

OpenStudy (freckles):

do you know what y=7 looks like?

OpenStudy (freckles):

or where the point (-5,-5) is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no, but i can guess

OpenStudy (xaze):

On the x and y-axis? Yes, I believe I do >.<

OpenStudy (freckles):

draw your parabola so that it is half way between the directrix and the focus and also so that it never touches the directrix. The parabola should be going away from the directrix.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

|dw:1415670790927:dw| @freckles how'd i do?

OpenStudy (freckles):

that x-axis ewww

OpenStudy (anonymous):

grrrr

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what point is half way between \((-5,-5)\) and \(y=7\) ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Xaze if that is not clear, let me know and i will tell you

OpenStudy (xaze):

Yes, I'm not really sure how to draw the parabola >n<

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i will let @freckles try her hand at this piece of artwork
