I have a question on perpendicular lines

OpenStudy (nikato):

Yes? They are two lines that intersect and form right angles

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Number 7 HELP!

OpenStudy (nikato):

Ok. So you have the line y=6, which is a horizontal line passing through (6,0), right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Isn't it (0,6)?

OpenStudy (nikato):

Oh, yes (0,6).

OpenStudy (nikato):

Actually I'm not sure how to explain it. But you can hopefully picture. So the perpendicular to a horizontal line is a vertical line. So you know the equation is x=? and you're looking for the ?

OpenStudy (nikato):

Since you know it goes through (-3,2) The x is -3. So the perpendicular line to y=6 Is x=-3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh ok got it thank you!

OpenStudy (nikato):

No problem
