Use ideas about structure and bonding to explain the following statement. The iodine atoms in iodine molecules are joined together by covalent bonds. covalent bonds are strong but iodine has low melting and boiling points.

The low melting point is probably in reference to that of ionic bonds which have very high melting points because the electrons are transferred in ionic and only shared in covalent.
