OpenStudy (j.f):

Simplify this expression: 2c^2+5cd-3d^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(2c-d)(c+3d)

OpenStudy (j.f):

can you tell me how you got the answer as in the steps you take

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the coefficient of c^2 is 2 and the coefficient of d^2 is -3. the product of 2 and -3 is -6. the factors of -6 which sum to 5 are -1 and 6. so 2c^2+5cd-3d^2= 2c^2+6cd-cd-3d^2 which equals c(2c-d)+3(2c-2)d. factor 2c-d from c(2c-d)+3(2c-2)d and you get (2c-d)(c+3d)
