Should OS have a search function?
I have encountered many questions that have already been answered, and users asking their questions should check for this.

I have seen some people copy their question, paste it in the regular search box, then type 'OpenStudy' after their question. It will show questions like theirs answered already in the past. I use this way to find my old post by typing keywords then sammixbo then openstudy

Here are some tips & tricks

When you search something in Google's Search Engine; and you want pages specific to OpenStudy, put: op-ed site:OpenStudy.com -- This will search for specific results.

If you Capitalize words; it searches for those specific words (e.g., COMPASSIONATE)
And if you put quotations around phrases, it will only include results with those phrases.

For example, if you wanted to find search results for Sammixboo for certain phrases she has used, you would search

op-ed Site:OpenStudy.com SAMMIXBOO "I love kittens."

It would be a wonderful feature. The party line is that each student's misunderstanding of the question is particularly their own, so no former student's learning process will be applicable to current students. Therefore, no search previous questions feature.

This is not how people are trained to go about answering questions in the real world. First you do everything you can to see if someone has already asked (and answered) this question, then you ask it.

I have to agree with the original poster.
I don't enjoy scrolling through past questions waiting for the site to update older question. It would be nice if all the questions you worked on or commented on could be stored in a cloud and quickly searched.

It would be nice to have search tools, especially if they could also let you search your direct messages. However, I see this as a low priority since Google's site search handles the question part of searching pretty well. It is not perfect, but it means there is a decent tool for the most critical thing to search.

It would be nice if you didn't have to scroll through past questions when you search, and wait for the server to update. Maybe open study could give students cloud space so they can have all their past questions ready to access (could be a subscription perk)

Yep, a lots of changes are going to happen including addition of new features and an overall interface change. For your question when? there is no certainty yet but i know some features like Qualified Helpers and OwlBucks are gonna be added later this month
