Explain how the law of universal gravitation works using any two of the following items: a person, a two pound block, a tree, a whale, a mountain, the Moon, or the Earth AND describe how distance plays a role in what you described.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

according to the law of universal gravitation two objects having mass attract each other. This force of attraction between two objects having mass is gravitational. This force between two objects varies inversely with the square of the distance between them and it is directly proportional to the product of their masses. For example, let the mass of the moon be m and the mass of the earth be M and the distance between them be r,then the gravitational force acting between them is given by F=GmM/(r)^2 Here G is known as the universal constant of gravitation G=6.67 x (10)^(-11)
