The navigation routes to the Americas became easier to travel as they became more familiar, the Europeans started to colonise the New World and at the same time the navigation routes to Africa became more accessible and the Europeans started to colonise there also. This increased the slave trade by creating a demand for slaves to work in the New World in the establishment of new settlements and in the plantations of crops and also supplying this demand with the native Africans of West Africa which the Europeans now had easier access to.
