Which of the following is not an example of interactions between biotic and abiotic factors in an ecosystem? a. flowers opening at dawn and closing at night b. bears hibernating in winter c. male elk fighting over a female d. Monarch butterflies migrating to Mexico for the winter

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would it be C?

thomaster (thomaster):

first, what is the difference between abiotic and biotic factors in an ecosystem?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

abiotic is nonliving and biotic i think is living

thomaster (thomaster):

exactly :) in a, the biotic factor is the flower, the abiotic factor is light. in b, biotic is the bear and abiotic is the season or the temperature in c, there are 2 biotic factors interacting, the 2 elk fighting. in d it's the same as in b. So you're right, male elk fighting over a female are not a biotic/abiotic interaction.
