Electromagnetic waves consist of vibrating Electric and magnetic fields.Electric and magnetic fields propagate perpendicular to each other and these fields oscillate perpendicular to the direction of propagation of light.
Polarization of light is the phenomenon of restricting the vibrations of light (electric field vector) in a particular direction. 
Polarized sunglasses have a certain type of material which absorb the electric vectors in some particular directions hence polarizing the light.
