An autobiography is a biography written by the person itself. The person is usually sharing his or her's life story. A memoir is a biography written by someone with personal knowledge. For example, the wife wrote a biography of her husband that passed away. It would be a memoir instead of a biography because the wife has personal knowledge of him. Basically, the difference is that an autobiography is written by the person itself and a memoir is written by someone that has personal knowledge.
