but back when? for a research paper especially a thesis statement you cant say things so vague. its like saying things in an essay you just dont do it. also i wouldnt say peoples lives. just take out people. also the industrial revolution affects are lives today. you wrote affected which means it would be past tense but your talking about today which is the present. you cant have both. also affect could mean bad as well as good. you are assuming that your audience thinks that technology and factories are a good thing, but it is still a controversial topic. 

i hope this helps you out! Its a good way to start but it needs editing and some work but thats just how writing is.

i still dont know it it affects our lives today in good or bad way. Significantly just tells me a lot and affects our lives just means its there. It doesnt tell me if its a good or bad thing. You say that it was both in the 18th  century but you dont say if its good or bad today. Also it would be 18th century. You forgot the th.
