Marcus bought 1.35 pounds of Columbian coffee and 1.84 pounds of French roast coffee at the market. How many pounds of coffee did Marcus buy altogether?

OpenStudy (phi):

any idea ? I would add the two numbers.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

add 1.35 and 1.84 ?

OpenStudy (phi):

yes. If he bought 1 pound of one type and another pound of the other stuff, it would be 1+1= 2 pounds. It makes sense to add the two numbers, right ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah thanks

OpenStudy (phi):

to add them, write 1.84 below 1.35 and add as if it where 135 + 184 (but put in the decimal point in the right spot)
