Sorry! Just saw this! You could maybe write about what would've happened is at the end when he was struggling to make a fire because his fingers were frost bitten, perhaps he was able to succeed. But maybe he didn't have enough energy to keep going forward. So maybe the dog runs off to the camp my himself, and when he gets there the other men go to look for his owner. Idk just a suggestion haha

While I am not going to write the report for you. There are a number of things that apply to writing an alternate ending. The first thing is try to picture yourself as the author as you read this story. Then I would suggest thinking about another way it can go based on the authors style. If you write as yourself it may sound odd. You have to try to imitate the author to come up with a good ending. When you are checking your work read the whole story and replace the regular ending with your ending. This is a good way to check it's compatibility.
