OpenStudy (haseeb96):

for finding the average speed of plane first the formula of speed is speed = Distance / time now for first one distance = 18miles and time = 1/3 of hour = 0.333 hours so put it in the formula and get the speed for first one speed = 18 miles / 0.333 hour = ??? tell me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

6 ?

OpenStudy (haseeb96):

no . there is 0.333 not 3 when we divide 18 with 0.333 = 54.054 miles per hour okay ? 54.054 is your speed to a town

OpenStudy (haseeb96):

now for return time = 3/5 hour = 0.6 hour and distance = 18 miles speed =??? now the formula of speed is speed = distance / time now put the values in the above formula and get the speed on return

OpenStudy (haseeb96):

tell me what would be the speed in return ? @justsmile531

OpenStudy (anonymous):

6.48?

OpenStudy (haseeb96):

no . it would be 30 miles per hour

OpenStudy (haseeb96):

for finding the average speed put the above both speed in this way and divide them by 2 u will get average speed

OpenStudy (anonymous):

42.027 ?

OpenStudy (haseeb96):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok. now to find the average wind speed what do I do ?

OpenStudy (haseeb96):

as written in your screen shot the initial trip is 18= (x+y) 1/3 here x is the average speed of plane and y is the average wind speed so we have got the average speed of plane which is 42.027 now just put it the above expression and get the value of y

OpenStudy (haseeb96):

tell me what will be the value of y ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The answer is 49.973 ?

OpenStudy (haseeb96):

no the answer is 11.973 okay now the expression for return trip is 18 = (x-y) 1/3 now just put the value of x which is 42.027 and get the value of y and tell me what u got?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

10.018

OpenStudy (haseeb96):

no it would be y =-11.973 so as u know how to find the average speed of wind just use the same method as u apply for finding the average speed of plane

OpenStudy (haseeb96):

Ok. Thank you

OpenStudy (haseeb96):

most welcome smart girl :)
