When f(x)=[[x]] is the greatest integer function, what is the range of f(x)=x-[[x]]? I cannot seem to graph this? and I am not exactly sure what the greatest integer function is?

OpenStudy (ikram002p):

f(x)=x-[[x]] [[x]] is an integer x is rational i suppose thus [[x]] would express the decimals hmm lets see which decimals

OpenStudy (ikram002p):

wait sorry f(x) would be decimals sorry

OpenStudy (ikram002p):

i think it would be -1>=f(x)=x-[[x]] >=0 since x<[[x]]

I just figured out how to graph it on my calculator and it made the range very clear. But thank you all for being willing to help!

i give you hint let x=1.6 [x]=1 x-[x]=0.6 if x=1 [x]=1 x-[x]=0|dw:1415905669833:dw|
