Multiply the first equation by -2,\[\Large\rm -6x-2y=-2\]\[\Large\rm \quad6x+2y=-9\]Then add the equations, what do you get? c:

OpenStudy (vjt):

-6x-2y=-2 6x+2y=-9 x=-11?

zepdrix (zepdrix):

-11 on the right side, that looks good. But on the left side, you're combing 6x and -6x. And also 2y and -2y. If you were combining 3potatoes and -3potatoes, you would end up with 0potatoes.

OpenStudy (vjt):

so your saying i need to do... x+y=-11?
