Definition of a function is that each input has one and only one output. In other words, for each value of x, there is ONLY ONE value of y. For the tables, you just need to check to see if this is true. If you have a value of x that has 2 different y values, then it is not a function. For the graphs, you just need to do the vertical line test. Draw a vertical line. If it crosses the graph in more than one place, then it is not a function. You may need to do this in several places on the graph if it is unclear.

so would it be C,A @Becki

OpenStudy (anonymous):

C is correct. A is not.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay okay so its C and D than right -.-

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Becki

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not A because you have one value of x that gives you 2 different values of y. Not D because you can draw a vertical line at x=-1 and pass through 2 points.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it C AND B THAN RIGHT @Becki

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes. Because you can draw a vertical line anywhere on the B graph and only pass through one point on the parabola.

Thanks @Becki
