The soldiers have to leave their homes/families, usually for long periods of time and with only a few short breaks to go home to visit their families. Many of them die or are permanently injured as well. The families have to deal with constant fear and worry for the person who is in war, and they also sometimes go without food because they spend their money on things for the soldier. The children might lose parents or siblings. Prices for things usually go up, because war often causes inflation (when there is more demand than supply). Many people go without food, clean clothes, and shelter.
