B^2+5b-35=3b

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

start by rewriting, subtract 3b from both sides \[b^2 + 2b - 35 = 0\] now find the factors of -35 that add to 2... the larger factor is positive... what do you think..?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I just don't know how to do it at all ..

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

ok... so the equation can be solved for b by factoring... the factors of -35 you need are 7 and -5 so in factored form its (b + 7)(b - 5) = 0 so that means to find the solutions you need to solve b + 7 = 0 and b - 5 = 0 if either factor is zero then the whole equation is zero so find the values of b..
