Anybody know an easy way to customize icons? Perhaps take a .jpg and turn it into an icon..

Recently I've figured out how to use the windows shell, and what batch files are. As a result, I can now make icons on the desktop that initiate my java programs- cool stuff. I can change the icon by right clicking on the shell shortcut that I make (for some reason I can't change the icon of a .bat file, but since I can do what I need to on the shell shortcut, it doesn't matter), go to properties, then click on the change icon button. After that I delete the path & a list of available icons show up that I can change the icon too - though how would I go about making my own icon?
