What is the slope of the line passing through the points (0, 4) and (−8, −1)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i graphed it and then counted the rise and run. the rise is how much it goes up, and the run is how far over it goes. it went up 1 and to the right 12 so the slope is 1/12. you can also do this with an equation, but i prefer to see it visually

OpenStudy (sidsiddhartha):

or u can dorectly use the slope formula: slope of a line passing throu points (x1,y1) and (x2,y2) is \[m=\frac{ y_2-y_1 }{ x_2-x_1 }\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ooooh thanks so much @sidsiddhartha

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@sidsiddhartha is also correct, thats the formula to use or you can graph it like i said. both ways are correct(:
