If an atom has 8 protons, how many electrons does it usually have?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It should have 8 electrons, unless it is a isotope.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

An atom is electrically neutral. Therefore, the number of protons is equal to the number of electrons. @Takashi Even in an isotope, the number of protons and electrons are equal, only different in the number of neutrons.
