You might want to first look at https://www.khanacademy.org/math/algebra2/exponential_and_logarithmic_func/exponential-modeling/v/word-problem-solving-exponential-growth-and-decay there are two problems. the first is about decay (negative growth) the second at about 3:35 in, is close to one of your problems.
