java the complete reference is a helpful book which should be an available online pdf. There is also codingbat.com which provides practice problems & is a helpful learning tool. Look at e.mccromick's post, 11 posts below yours; some helpful info there. If you're interested in getting a physical book; java through control structures and objects 3rd or 4th edition works great.

My advice is to purchase a book because the programming sites doesn't discuss everything in detail. So, I refer you 2 books: 1) JAVA:The Complete Reference or 2) Learning JAVA. Happy Programming :)
