Hey guys I am making a video of of open study can you guys answer my question 5+6+8*4

sammixboo (sammixboo):

Following the Order of Operations we must do the parenthesis, exponents, multiplication/division, and lastly subtraction/addition. Since there is no Parenthesis or Exponents, we must multiply first starting from the left of the equation, then ending at the right, so first what is 8*2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

43

sammixboo (sammixboo):

No! 8*2 = 8 + 8 which equals 16 :0 So now we have 5 + 6 + 16 Now, following the order of operations, we must add/subtract starting from the left side of the equation, so what is 5 + 6?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry my bad 27

sammixboo (sammixboo):

Ah, good job!

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

P: Parenthesis E: Exponents M: Multiplication D: Division A: Addition S: Subtraction A good way to memorize this is by using a sentence. Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally. Pink Elephants Make Dandy Apple Sauce. lol @confluxepic wrote this.. Oh well he is my bro and wouldn't mind.

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Also I made a PEMDAS tutorial... Goes looking for it.

sammixboo (sammixboo):

You can do Multiplication/Division and Addition/Subtraction in any order, as long as you go from left to right
