How many protons are there in the c-12?How about the number of neutrons?

OpenStudy (nechirwan):

The number of protons that a particular type of atom has is always constant. Hydrogen ALWAYS has 1 proton. Helium ALWAYS has 2. Carbon ALWAYS has 6. You can use the periodic table to look this up. The number '12' in carbon-12 is the atomic weight. This is the total number of protons and neutrons. So Hydrogen-2 would have one proton (since its hydrogen) and 1 neutron. Carbon-12 has 6 protons, and then there are 6 neutrons. Carbon-14 has 6 protons, so it must have 8 neutrons (8+6=14).

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

I would correct you on one small point:- 12 is the Mass Number not the Atomic Weight
