Which of the following ordered pairs represents a solution to the equation below ? ( -2, 0 ), (-1, 0 ), ( 0, -2), (1, 0), (2, 5) y = -x - 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you can check all of them: x=-2 --> y=1 so the first one (-2,0) cannot be a solution. x=-1 --> y =0 so the first one can be. x=0 --> y=-1 so the third one isn't (0,-2) x=1 --> y=-2 so the forth one isn't. x=2 --> y=-3 and the fifth one isn't too. only (-1,0) is a solution.

you can solve this question by another way too: draw the line: y=-x-1 |dw:1416052916428:dw|

you see none of those ordered pairs are on the line except (-1,0)
