how do you factor 6x^2-7x-3 using the ac-method?

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

i can factor it but ive never heard of the ac method

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

anyway i'll use the method i learned a while back 6 * -3 = -18 now we look for factors of -18 which will add up to the middle number of the trinomial - that is -7

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

so we can write 6x^2 + 2x - 9x - 3 and factoring in pairs = 2x(3x + 1) - 3(3x + 1) = (3x + 1)(2x - 3) )
