Triangle XYZ is located at X (-2, 1), Y (-4, -3), and Z (0, -2). The triangle is then transformed using the rule (x-1, y+3) to form the image X'Y'Z'. What are the new coordinates of X', Y', and Z'? Describe what characteristics you would find if the corresponding vertices were connected with line segments.
Help!!!
@Hero
Okay so since the triangle is XYZ X (-2,1) so they have given you (x-1,y+3) so what you do is get the -2 from the x area and subtract 1 because the equ
So the triangle is XYZ and they've given you X (-2,1) Y (-4,-3) Z (0,-2) and since they've given you the formula (x-1,y+3) so what you do is first you used (-2,1) and we want to know the new coordinates for X so using the formula (-2-1,1+3) and the new coordinates for X is (-3,4)
Oh ok, thanks I kinda figured that, but the thing that confuses me is the last part. "Describe what characteristics you would find if the corresponding vertices were connected with line segments."
Then for Y (-4,-3) using the formula (x-1, y+3) it would look like( -4-1,-3+3) and the new coordinates for Y is (-5,0)
The last little bit I need help with, cause it confuses me.
Which part? "Describe what characteristics you would find if the corresponding vertices were connected with line segments."???
Yes that part, is what I need help with.
Have you learned about vectors?
I have, but right now its foggy and I don't remember much about it.
Or what characteristics have you learned about? If I know which part you learned, I may explain it clearer
I don't remember seeing or hearing anything about characteristics. It also wouldn't surprise me to not have seen it, because FLVS is doing something new where the stuff you take tests about won't be based straight off the lesson.
Since \(the\ triangle\ is\ transformed\ using\ the\ rule\ (x-1, y+3)\), it was moved up 3, and left 1. Or it was translated by the vector \((-1,3)\)
Ok this helps me get an idea of how some characteristics are. Thanks I'll give you a medal.
You are welcome. However, I can see that my explanation is not clear. I am sorry. Hope you have an idea about how the triangle was moved
Yup it moved by a translation right, you helped me to get a understanding on it so thank you!!!
I am happy to help
