If you were to use the substitution method to solve the following system, choose the new equation after the expression equivalent to y from the first equation is substituted into the second equation. 8x - y = -9 4x - 3y = -22

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

what do you get when you solve 8x - y = -9 for y?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

idk..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Isolate y onto one side of the equation. So to do that you'd add y to the left and the right side. The left side cancels so you're left with y on the right side. Since we want to isolate y we add 9 to both sides and 9 cancels on the right so we're left with +9 on the left. You just solved for y.

Now plug that y value that you just solved for into the second equation given and you should be able to solve for x.
