The Royal Barge Procession is a ceremony that has been around for centuries. A royal barge is a flat-bottomed boat that travels along rivers and canals. It is used by kings and queens when they travel on bodies of water. It is still used in countries such as England today. Any barge that royalty travels on down the River Thames in England can totally be a royal barge. Sometimes, a barge is built for a special occasion. For example, in 2012, a barge was made for Queen Elizabeth II in celebration of her Diamond Jubilee. The Diamond Jubilee marked 60 years of her reign. The barge, named Gloriana, led the parade down the Thames.
